Henley on thames triathlon Club

Guidelines

HOT TRI is a club formed by like-minded triathletes to create a COMMUNITY that wants to train and race together. It is a non-profit organisation, built on the goodwill of its members and guided by a committee of its members. From the outset, we acknowledge that it is impossible to please everyone when it comes to a training programme or approach, but we must do our best to ensure fair expectations and a fun, inclusive and safe environment can be enjoyed by members. All members are expected to adhere to the following guidelines, issues can be reported to admin@hottri.com

Training

Training is self-organised amongst members, so be respectful of others time:

  • we leave on time

  • if you plan to join, tell the session organiser, then turn up, and if you can’t make it then let them know

  • all rides are 'no-drop', meaning that no one gets left behind and the group will wait for those at the back at strategic points on the route

  • if you're unsure that you'll be able to keep the pace of the others, ask beforehand

  • if you join a session and you can't complete it (e.g. a mechanical or injury) please make sure you're able to get back safely (fully charged phone, cash for taxi etc.)

  • if you’re organising a session then you need to properly lead the session, i.e. have a plan, explain to everyone at the outset what the plan is, what to do if you get separated, the leader must ensure everyone returns safely

  • Set clear expectations for the session, i.e. it’s a no-drop ride, or it’s a training session so it’ll be full-on, or "we’re going out here and we’ll meet at a coffee shop for a social after"

  • if someone has a puncture then you ensure they’re not left on their own

support

Everyone is learning and trying to get better at our sport. You are no different for wanting support or looking for help! In fact, it's critical you do look for support if you want to improve.

Here are some things that will help and some things to be aware of...

  • DO GET A COACH - Coaching makes a big difference. Discuss and establish your goals in the sport with an experienced coach

  • DO GET ONTO A PLAN - Getting onto a structured plan will help with gradual improvements and, under the right supervision, can lead to significant gains whilst reducing the risk of injury

  • DO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMMUNITY -  it's the fast way to learn more tips and tricks of Triathlon and enjoy the process

  • DO CHECK THAT SESSIONS SUIT YOUR ABILITY, you don't want to hold others up, it may demotivate you or, worse yet, it may be unsafe
